A LABRADOR retriever has beaten off 11 other contenders to win the Pets As Therapy Showdog of the Year title at Crufts.
Lembas Thank’U For the Music at Jaybec Sh Cm (pet name Tia) is owned by Rebecca and Jayne Mills, from Bristol.
Taking the runner-up position at Friday’s activity at Crufts was Maltese Terrier, IR Champion Sumarnik Hot Pursuit CW12 SHCM (pet name Percy), owned by Raewyn & Doreen Cowset, Nicola Welbourn, Susan Tyler.
The competition was judged by Mr Tony Allcock MBE, from the Kennel Club.
Each of the contestants in the Showdog event were stake class winners from previous events held in the UK and Channel Islands.
It is not stipulated that all competing in the class must be an active Pets As Therapy dog, but to enter the prestigious contest, it is required that the owner is either a supporter or volunteer of the Pets As Therapy charity.

IR Champion Sumarnik Hot Pursuit CW12 SHCM (pet name Percy), a Maltese Terrier, owned by Raewyn and Doreen Cowset, Nicola Welbourn and Susan Tyler, from Grantham, Lincs

Cheryl Tissot, CEO of Pets As Therapy, said: “Once again, this particular contest proved to be of an exceptionally high standard, so all of the finalists can be very pleased with reaching as far as they did.
“Obviously our special congratulations go to Tia, and we thank the Kennel Club for judging this field and enabling us to spotlight the charity through the competition.”
Sponsoring the contest for the first time this year was Arden Grange, makers of premium pet food.

As the winner of the Pets as Therapy Showdog of the Year title, Tia’s owners received a cheque for £200, with the runner-up receiving £100.
Arden Grange, is also providing the winner with a further 12kg bag of dog food.
