I moved to Dorset from London in 2014 with my husband and Patterdale Terrier, all of us excited about enjoying some windswept walks along the beautiful beaches there. My little black dog and I also became regular Pets As Therapy visitors to a nursing home in Lyme Regis. The smiling faces that greeted us every week assured me that those visits were worthwhile. The residents enjoyed a cuddle and the chance to reminisce about their much-loved and much-missed pets. And Archee was in her element receiving lots of attention (and the occasional dog treat).
Although she has since sadly passed away, I am thrilled to still be involved with Pets As Therapy as a Trustee. I’ve worked in publishing for over 25 years, writing and editing content for various magazines and websites. For nine of those years, I was editor of Which? Travel magazine, and therefore have a wealth of experience working for a not-for-profit charity. I’ve been involved in lots of fund-raising events too – walking night-time marathons, driving buses on Three Peaks Challenges and organising many a pub quiz. Next time I’ll make sure there is a round on dogs.
